How to Commission an Original Pet Portrait

Buying an original work of art is an exciting personal experience and commissioning a Pet Portrait is even more so: you are asking an artist whose work you feel a connection with to create something special just for you of your fur baby.

My joy and passion is to capture your companion's spirit and character with depth and richness. A tangible visual of heartfelt love and forever bond.

Designing a portrait is complex. A finished painting only radiates life, if everything works: the composition, posture, use of color harmony, anatomy, the glint in the eyes, the light and background, just to name a few.

The Commission Process

The commission process is straight forward.
This is how I work.

  • 1 Contact me via the Contact form or call me at 310-691-4451. When we visit have in mind the size of painting you wish (see price list below), how many pets will be in the painting and the mood (see gallery under Pet Portraits).
I want a clear picture of your desires so I can create a Pet Portrait you will be delighted with.
  • 2 Request the first of 3 payments – I accept cash (if local), check, paypal, venmo, cash app or Apple pay to begin the process.

This first payment is non-refundable : Its a third of the amount to start designing mock-ups for you to choose from that meet your wishes. The designing stage is a lengthy process and not to be rushed.
  • 3 Once received, I will request good quality photos. I can offer methods to obtain some great photos if you don’t already have some.
  • 4 I will begin designing mock-ups – The process often takes a week or more as I fit all the pieces together, asking; What’s working? What’s not working? And What if? You will then have choices to select from on what the final painting will look and feel like.
  • 5 Once we agree, I will request the second of 3 payments and begin your painting! I work slowly and methodically, allowing the painting to come to life.
  • 6 During this time – You will be updated as to my progress and ask any questions I may have.
  • 7 Once your Pet Portrait is finished, I will send you a photo. For me as an artist, it’s very important that you are delighted with the finished piece.
  • 8 The final payment will be requested.
  • 9 The painting will be shipped to you free of charge once dried and varnished!

Congratulations, you now have a new, unique painting to cherish or offer to someone special.
